Singapore, 20 February 2003 - SGX-listed food manufacturer Food Empire Holdings is pleased to announce that its subsidiary FES Industries Private Limited has been awarded the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification.

FES Industries owns and operates manufacturing facilities in Singapore that concentrates on producing instant coffee beverages. It was recently awarded the certification after its 52 full-time staff at the Singapore factory underwent training on the HACCP food safety control system.

Pioneered in the 1960s' in the United States of America, HACCP is an important management system used in the food industry to protect the food supply against microbiological, chemical and physical hazards.

This system was first used when food was developed for the US space programme and has since been adopted by many food processors internationally.

The 52-week programme, conducted last year at Food Empire's Singapore factory, included training all line leaders and supervisors on known food safety hazards and process controls; providing a methodology to detect food hazards; and training operators and workers on hygiene and good manufacturing practices.

Food Empire Holdings Managing Director and Chairman Mr Tan Wang Cheow said: "We invested in the HACCP system as we are constantly striving to improve our food safety controls and standards throughout all our operations. As a responsible food manufacturer, we aim to deliver only safe and top quality food products to our markets worldwide."
